EDC wasn’t originally on my list of festivals to attend—even though it’s one of the biggest.
When I first started going to festivals, it was held in June at the speedway in Nevada.
No shade. Just heat.
And I had heard all the stories—how intense it could get, and how much it could take out of people.
That alone was enough for me to say no.
I’m not built for that kind of weather.
But when they moved it to May, I figured I’d give it a shot.
Still hot… just not June hot.
What makes EDC a little more fun for me is that it falls on the same weekend as my birthday.
It actually makes for a pretty good birthday party, lol.
The first year was like most firsts—just trying to figure everything out.
Learning the layout.
Understanding how it all works.
When I left, I actually thought that would be the only year I’d go.
I got to see some great DJs… there was just something missing.
The vibe wasn’t really there for me.
But when tickets went on sale for the next year… I bought them.
I figured I had to give it another go—too many people had hyped it up for me not to.
Last year was different.
My buddy—aka my little bro—came with me.
He’s been to a few EDCs before, even worked some of them, and we’ve done a lot of festivals together.
He’s always a solid plus one… even when he overdoes it a little and we end up back at the hotel on Sunday night (the final night), streaming it from the room instead.
With him there, I saw so much more than I had the first year.
We also randomly ran into friends we hadn’t seen in a while, which made it even better.
Last year was easily my favorite.
I still watch some of those sets at the gym.
And now… my third and final year is around the corner.
And I’m over the moon excited.
I can’t wait to see my friends.
We’ve got a great group this year, and my bestie is my plus one.
I’m also planning to do something I haven’t done at any festival yet—venture out on my own a bit.
Which feels… slightly terrifying, but also exciting.
My friends are the best wing people, already hyping me up, ready to help me flirt and maybe find a fun rave boo for the weekend.
We’re all staying in the same hotel, and our flights come in around the same time, so we’ll meet up at the airport.
Which already feels like the start of it.
And honestly… I’ve been emotional about this one.
I’ve cried actual tears of excitement since the tickets showed up.
So whoever ends up sitting next to me on that flight…
good luck.
